Solana has become a patron of BoldLeonidas’ Bold Comics, adding one of crypto’s largest blockchain ecosystems to the list of organizations supporting the pseudonymous artist’s daily work.
BoldLeonidas announced the arrangement on X on Aug. 31, writing that he was “very excited to welcome @solana as a Bold Comics patron.” Solana subsequently reposted the announcement and responded to the artist from its official account.
The announcement describes Solana specifically as a patron, rather than outlining a broader commercial partnership. Financial terms, the duration of the arrangement and any other contractual details have not been disclosed.
BoldLeonidas has previously explained that his ongoing comic patrons support his work in exchange for their mascots being incorporated into some of his comics. The artist recently used that description while seeking a new patron following the end of an arrangement with Pump.fun.
That makes the Solana agreement part of an established model through which BoldLeonidas funds the production of free, regularly published comics while incorporating characters associated with supporting projects.
BoldLeonidas is a pseudonymous Australian illustrator best known for hand-drawn cartoons that comment on crypto markets, memes and the culture surrounding Crypto Twitter.
His approach was formulated after spending time reading illustrated children’s books with his son. BoldLeonidas said the experience drew him toward illustration and led him to develop a digital style that felt distinct from trying to reproduce traditional painting on a screen.
He was already experimenting with NFT projects by 2021 and 2022. By September 2022, BoldLeonidas wrote that he had begun trying to draw a comic every day based around his own interpretation of Pepe the Frog.
That experiment developed into what became Bold Comics.
