Yuga Labs has launched Mudwater, a physical and digital Bored Ape Yacht Club trading card collection on Solana, with free pack claims open to Bored Ape and Mutant Ape holders. Its first set, Swamp Origins, has a fixed supply of 240,000 packs.

Mudwater's digital cards and sealed packs are Solana NFTs, while the original ape collections remain on Ethereum. A fee on secondary trades buys ApeCoin for distribution to Mudwater holders.

Pack Claims and the Swamp Origins Supply

Each Bored Ape qualifies for 10 packs, and each Mutant Ape qualifies for two. More than 140,000 packs are available through the official claim page, with claims closing at midnight UTC on Jan. 19, 2027. Serialized packs will be awarded randomly 30 days after the initial claim.

BAYC has airdropped Totems paired with BAYC and MAYC NFTs to enable claims. Totems use ERC-6551, an Ethereum token-bound account standard that gives an NFT its own wallet, to handle claims for the Solana collection.

Swamp Origins contains 120 artworks, with foil and serialized editions alongside eight one-of-one cracked-ice cards. Each pack contains 10 cards, each box contains 24 packs, and each case contains 10 boxes. The full supply comprises 10,000 boxes, or 2.4 million cards.

The community-airdrop allocation accounts for 7,134 boxes, or 71.34% of supply, including packs for ape holders and boxes for ApeFest attendees. Another 2,000 boxes form a commercial reserve, 566 support community onboarding, and 300 are allocated to partner communities.

How Solana Trades Feed ApeCoin Rewards

Every digital Mudwater trade carries a 2.5% fee called a reflection. That fee buys APE and distributes it to collectors in proportion to their Mudwater holdings. Tokenized packs, boxes, and cases also count toward holdings, so the mechanism includes collectors who keep their packages sealed.

A separate 2.5% royalty brings the combined reflection and royalty to 5% of a trade.

Collectors can combine 24 sealed pack tokens into a box token and 10 box tokens into a case token. They can trade packs, boxes, or cases without opening the underlying packs.

Physical Cards and Otherside Gameplay

Physical booster boxes went on sale at the BAYC Pop-Up on Oct. 18, while supplies lasted.

Mudwater plans to let collectors redeem a token for a printed card shipped from a warehouse. Collectors could also send in a physical card for verification and storage in exchange for a token. Each token would represent a card in storage, so collectors could move their cards between a wallet and a physical collection.

Players can already play the card game in Otherside using demo cards, and support for collectors' onchain cards is planned. Its ante system calls for both players to stake three cards; the winner takes one of the opponent's cards at random. Those stakes are intended to stay onchain until the match ends.
